A critical study of US American literature from the early to mid-nineteenth century. May include a discussion of American Gothicism, Sentimentalism, and Transcendentalism, as well as genres such as slave narratives, short stories, novels, poetry, and essays. PREREQ: ENG 3040 or permission of the instructor.
