Race and Racism

Catalog description

This course starts with the position that race and ethnicity are social constructs, and challenges students to use a constructionist perspective to analyze race relations and social inequality in multiple contexts. The primary goal of this course is to provide students with a foundation for understanding race and racism through a sociological lens. Over the course of the semester, students will learn to understand race as relational, consider how race and racism are (re)produced through social institutions, and race and racism structure our everyday lives. PREREQ: SOC 1020
