This course offers a survey of 1000 years of Russian culture from its beginnings to the 1917 Revolution. It explores how Russians understand key concepts such as spirituality, space, time, beauty, art, power and authority, history, myth, Russia's relationship to the West, the Russian homeland, and other themes vital for an understanding of Russian culture. It pursues these problems through seven "wonders" of the Russian world.
