Catalog description

Exploration of the major religious traditions of South Asia. Focuses on the beliefs and practices associated with different traditions, and the ways that these relate to one another and to broader political, historical, and cultural formations. Also addresses questions of modernization, reform, communal violence, and other transformations of religious life. Students will engage with a diverse array of sources, from epic literature and devotional poetry to visual art, architecture, and performance traditions.
