Christ's Passion Plays in Mexico.

This course explores the Christ's Passion Plays written and performed by Indigenous people in Colonial Mexico. After 1519 when Spaniards and friers came in Mexico, they also brought with them the Christian doctrine. Friers spread out Christianity in colonial Mexico and one of the methods to teach Christianity to Indigenous populations was through the theatrical evangelization. In the eighteenth century, Indigenous performances were prohibited by the Inquisition. In the twentieth century Indigenous performances appeared again in some neighborhoods in Mexico City and the most performed was the Christ's Passion and the Last Supper performed for the Holy week.
