Catalog description

This course asks students to interrogate the ways in which the Bible relates to its others, those who are on the margins of society, whether because of ethnicity, gender, class, or other features. It asks how relating to this "other" can become a way of forging group identity, in what ways that occurs at the expense of the wellbeing of the marginalized, and what efforts are made to protect them. The course will examine these questions not only from the perspective of the biblical text but from the full global history of the Bible in different time periods and geographies. Honors version available.
