Catalog description

The course explores several Indigenous populations from Latin America including Mexico and Guatemala. The course begins with historical studies of Indigenous people, examining topics such as colonization and cultural trauma experienced after the conquest of Mexico in the Sixteenth Century until today. The course analyzes the relations among religion, ritual practices, sacred landscapes, health, diseases, addictions, gender, discrimination, human rights, and economic inequalities, experienced among Indigenous peoples in the Americas. Students will also learn about cultural wealth preserved by the Indigenous cultures and its contributions to the global world to obtain well-being.
