Catalog description
This course provides new planning graduate students with a foundational understanding of the city and regional planning field. Following an introduction to the history of cities and urban planning practice and theory, we introduce and discuss key functional topics within planning, including infrastructure, transportation, land use, climate change, environment and ecology, housing, community development, urban design, public health, historic preservation, and rural and small-town planning. For each of these topics, we introduce the primary theories, models, and approaches that planners use to manage and improve the function and structure of urban areas.
