In this course, we will study urban planning history to reveal how cities have developed and where they may be headed--offering insight into the broader American experience. Cities and city planning in the U.S. reflect a complex relationship between urban growth and public skepticism. While Americans rely on government to ensure mobility, safety, and healthy environments, they also expect limited governance. Planning operates within evolving social, economic, and legal boundaries, shaped by what society permits and promotes.
