NSCI 272
Brain Organoid Electrophysiology Lab.
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This is a hands-on, course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE) in developmental neurobiology. Students learn the principles of early neurodevelopment and activity-dependent plasticity while gaining technical experience in sterile cell culture, brain organoid generation, and electrophysiological recording. Working in research teams, students design and execute an original experiment testing how environmental, pharmacological, or activity-based interventions influence neural activity during development. The course emphasizes experimental design, data collection and analysis, scientific reading, and communication through journal clubs, research manuscripts, and poster presentations. Students with credit for NSCI 270 -279 may not enroll.
