Language and Mind.

Catalog description

This course explores the relationship between language and mind through the lenses of linguistics, cognitive psychology, and philosophy. Students will examine central debates about innateness, modularity, cognition, language evolution, and conceptual knowledge. We will also examine to what extent the current AI models can be said to model human cognition. By comparing and synthesizing disciplinary perspectives, students will learn how interdisciplinary approaches can provide a fuller understanding of complex questions about human cognition, meaning, and language.
