Catalog description
North Carolina cities are required to have a city attorney. Using real world examples, and drawing on a practitioner's experience, this course will examine some of the unique legal issues that a city attorney confronts, including: constitutional and statutory sources of and limitations on authority; various immunities to civil liability; First Amendment challenges; the constitutional public purpose limitation on economic development activities; and the practical and ethical challenge of advising a multi-constituent organization.
