Advanced copyright law examines contemporary and emerging debates on copyright doctrine and policy. The course explores foundational and evolving questions, including: (1) What purpose does copyright law serve? (2) Who qualifies as an author? (3) What rights does copyright grant, and what are the needed limits, balancing protection of rights with public access? Additional themes may include infringement, substantial similarity, the relationship between copyright and culture, the public domain, and challenges posed by technology.
