Catalog description

The course will examine: (1) market rate and affordable homeownership, including development process, land entitlements, subdivision creation, homeowner associations, restrictive covenants, purchase contracts, deeds, construction contracts, closing statements, and financing; (2) market rate and affordable rental housing, including development process, public housing, housing choice vouchers, low-income tax credits, RAD, ethics, zoning, and NIMBYism; (3) federal civil rights laws affecting housing; and (4) community development topics such as new markets, tax credits, historic tax credits and opportunity zones. Students will write one short paper and make a presentation on the same student-chosen topic, approved by the course instructor.
