Catalog description

This course examines the global history of the Bible. What the Bible is -- the Bible's identity -- is determined by how it has been used within the multitude of communities that have engaged it across the globe for over two millennia. The course begins with the Bible's earliest origins in the ancient Near East, explores its role in the formation of Judaism and Christianity, traces its spread throughout the globe through translation and missionary activity, considers its transformations in the modern period, and concludes with its varied uses in the contemporary world.
