Readings in U.S. Immigration History.

Catalog description

This graduate seminar assumes basic knowledge of U.S. immigration history, allowing us to delve into the legal and administrative history of immigration restriction. Centered on the history of state power, this course examines the development of laws, policies, and institutions that, while often separate from voluntary migration, are deeply interconnected with it. Special emphasis will be placed on the intersections between structural nativism and American racism, particularly as they relate to the evolving forms of White supremacy. Throughout the seminar, we will explore works that uncover these intersections in unexpected arenas.
