Catalog description

What does it mean to study food history, and how do we approach it from a global perspective? The world of food (and the food of the world) is a huge subject, and the focus in this class will be on historical texts and topics (as opposed to contemporary food issues), and on global examples (with an emphasis on non-Western regions, particularly Asia). Class topics will center on three major themes: Food as Nation; Food as Gender; Food as Systems.
