Catalog description

This survey course will introduce students to the major events, people and themes of modern Chinese history. At the end of the nineteenth century, China was an empire on the brink of collapse. Today, China is the next global superpower. What are the significant events, people and themes that impacted this major transformation? How has the trajectory of China's recent past influenced its position and challenges in the present?
