This course examines the history of maps and mapmaking as a way to understand how societies have defined, interpreted, and represented geographic knowledge over time. We will focus especially on early modern cartography and the Age of Discovery, while also examining how contemporary technologies like Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Google Earth continue these traditions of spatial representation.
