This seminar examines the relationship between language learning and diverse social contexts, focusing on how culture, identity, and community influence second language acquisition (SLA). Students will explore theoretical frameworks and empirical methods, with emphasis on quantitative and qualitative approaches. Through data collection, analysis, and hypothesis testing, we will assess the strengths and limitations of these methods in understanding SLA's social dynamics. Case studies and collaborative projects will highlight the lived experiences of diverse language learners, encouraging critical thinking and empathy. By course end, students will gain both theoretical insight and empirical research skills. Readings and class discussions in English.
