EPID827 explores key social theories and their applications in epidemiologic research. Drawing from interdisciplinary perspectives, students will examine prevailing frameworks outlining how social structures, power dynamics, cultural contexts, and identity shape health behaviors, access to care, and outcomes. By course end, students will be equipped to apply social theory to research design, hypothesis generation, data interpretation, and the development of interventions that address unjust and preventable health outcome differences across socially-defined populations to ensure more rigorous, relevant, and ethical epidemiologic research. Designed for Epidemiology PhD students.
