ENGL 259
Improvisational Comedy Games for Writers.
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
A performance-based course that supercharges the writing process through improvisational comedy and theater games. Topics include: generating ideas and characters; tuning a sense of setting, description and metaphor; and keeping the writing process lively. Students work individually on the page and - most importantly - collaboratively in the classroom to explore new possibilities, harness the complexity of what they already know, think laterally, communicate orally, and respond to incomplete information and uncertainty.
