ENGL 203
Memoir Writing.
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
Everyone has a story to tell, and sometimes those stories reveal a shared experience. In this class, we'll conceive of memoir as an act of witness that documents not only our personal histories, but those of our larger communities as well. Our narratives will deploy classic rise-fall story arcs as well as the most innovative forms in the genre: scrambled chronologies, visual autobiographies, graphic essays, and/or soundscapes. We won't just elevate our lives into art. We'll give voice to our shared humanity as an act of narrative justice.
