Catalog description

This course introduces students to developments in Japanese video games, using the techniques of critical game studies to analyze the history and development of Japanese video games. Students will use the literary techniques of close reading and genre analysis to chart the relationship between culture, technology, and design, including both Japanese and US corporate culture and aesthetic principles. The course may focus on particular designers or genres. No gaming experience needed.
