First-Year Seminar: How Rivers Shape the World.

Catalog description

Rivers and streams are everywhere. They have shaped societies for all of human history serving as both a critical resource and a force of destruction. Rivers provide food, water, transportation, and energy... as well as flood and droughts. We will dive into the science and history of rivers: How rivers flood and shape the earth and influence the evolution and destruction of civilizations, and in return, how people have changed rivers. This course will involve regular discussion, data literacy assignments, and student-driven research project.
