Catalog description
This course explores the interdisciplinary study of inland waters, including lakes, rivers, wetlands, and groundwater. It examines the physical, chemical, and biological processes that shape freshwater ecosystems. Topics include lake formation, water movement, biogeochemical cycling, aquatic organisms, and food web dynamics. Students will analyze how these factors interact to influence water quality, biodiversity, and ecosystem functioning. The course also addresses contemporary issues such as eutrophication, climate change impacts, and invasive species. Through lectures, data analysis exercises, and case studies, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of limnological principles and their application to water resource management and conservation.
