Students from other programs can be admitted with permission from the instructor. This course reviews typical child development and builds from a developmental psychopathology theoretical framework to foster a comprehensive understanding of the etiology and course of psychological disorders in childhood. The course draws on empirical literature to highlight important information about the nature of psychological symptoms, their developmental course, and approaches to psychological diagnosis. Diagnostic tools, including the DSM-5-TR, diagnostic interviews, and symptom measures are referenced throughout the discussion of all childhood disorders, with a particular focus on how they can be used to aid in differential diagnosis.
