Teaching the Science of Literacy II.

Catalog description
This course extends teacher candidates' knowledge of the Science of Literacy with a focus on assessment, curriculum, and pedagogy. Teacher candidates will review key components of reading and writing in the elementary grades (including reading comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, phonics, and phonemic awareness), with an emphasis on how research-based instructional practices can be integrated into required curricula. Teacher candidates will be able to use assessment data to determine whole-class and individual students' strengths and areas of growth. Teacher candidates will examine curricula to consider how they align to research-based practices and how they could be implemented in elementary classrooms.
