Catalog description

This course examines the science of literacy and how children learn to read and write, drawing on the powerful and complex empirical literature on the teaching and learning of reading and writing. Students will learn about the development of reading and writing skills across the elementary years; literacy assessment using the multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) framework; and instructional approaches, grounded in evidence-based practices, that meet learners' varied needs and foster the reading and writing development of all children. BAEd program students only.
