Catalog description

This course offers a hands-on introduction to the computational techniques essential for modern economic analysis. The computational part of the course includes numerical methods for solving a system of nonlinear equations, optimization, dynamic programming, and an introduction to deep learning and reinforcement learning. These methods are applied to real-world economic problems, such as portfolio choice, life-cycle investment strategies, and business cycle analysis. Students will work on projects that allow them to explore topics independently, gaining both theoretical insights as well as practical programming skills.
