Catalog description

This class provides students with a critical vocabulary for analyzing the visual, material, and political elements of memorials. Through an examination of commemorative debates, you will walk away with a better grasp of public memory - the ways that groups use memories of the past to influence the present. This course is not just a history of memorial politics, it is also a space to strengthen your oral communication skills to engage in deliberation over commemorative issues.
