Immigration, Diaspora, and Asian Films.

Catalog description

This course introduces Asian and transnational Asian films that engage with themes of gender, family, sexuality and citizenship. The narrative framework of immigration and diaspora between Asia and the West will allow us to explore topics such as transnational family, gender roles and generational differences, and East-West division and intersections, with approaches and theories of cultural studies and ethnography. The films we view in this course include works and directors from various Asian countries with English subtitles, and accompanied by various formats of scholarly and theoretical readings.
