This course explores the diverse and complex identities of Asian Americans in the U.S., addressing the historical and contemporary issues shaping their experiences. Beginning with an overview of Asian American history and demographics, students will examine topics like social positionality, political struggles, identity formation, gender, sexuality, and family dynamics. A unique aspect of the course is an oral history project focused on Asian Americans in the U.S. South. Through critical analysis and personal narratives, students will engage with the multifaceted nature of Asian American identities and their communities.
