Catalog description

Southeast Asia in the 20th century was the site of intense struggles for independence, ideological supremacy, and survival. This course surveys the history of these conflicts and reckons with their legacies and the ways in which Southeast Asians today remember and memorialize these events. After three weeks of in-class learning, students will travel to Laos to explore historical and memorial sites.
