This course will explore some of the major trends in American and European art, covering a range of provocative objects, ideas, and practices that continue to resonate. It provides a basis for understanding and assessing contemporary art, in relation to various historical, social, cultural, and political contexts. This course presents contemporary art and discourse as diverse, contradictory, contested, and unresolved. Honors version available.
