Catalog description

Organized around eight key themes, the course highlights the multifaceted character and vibrant textures of Chinese art from the Song dynasty (960-1279) to the Qing dynasty (1644-1912). Students will study canonized genres--landscape representation, court and literati practices--while also engaging with topics often marginalized in survey narratives, including depictions of animals and the varied roles women assumed within artistic worlds.
