Catalog description

This course examines the history and development of animation as an art form and an industry worldwide. It covers early experiments with animation, the transition to sound and feature films, and the rise of classical Hollywood studios. Course material will extend to other countries or regions. Work created outside the industry, such as experimental, cult, fine art, and video game animation, will also be considered. The course will track the development of the technology and techniques of animation, such as cel animation, stop-motion animation, puppet animation, silhouette animation, rotoscoping, pixilation, direct animation, limited animation on TV, and computer animation.
