Catalog description
This course explores the social context of health, illness, and health care systems. To explore these concepts, it will examine issues related to the experience of illness, disability, and mental illness; social disparities in health due to age, race, gender, and economics status; and the provision of health care, particularly in the United States. In addition to examining the U.S. health care systems in non-Western countries. Lastly, this course includes a sociological examination of the profession of medicine, the training and socialization of health care professionals, and issues relating to bioethics.
