Applied Data Science for Geoscience

Catalog description

This class serves as an introduction to the data sciences and how they can be applied to the geosciences. In particular, there will be a focus on GIS programming in which students learn about fundamentals of programming logic and a programming environment where GIS software capabilities can be extended using programming languages such as Python in order to facilitate data-informed decision using voluminous amounts of data. This class will culminate in a semester-long project that stimulate a problem that a student will experience in the professional realm. No prior computer programming experience required.
