Applied Data Science for the Geosciences

Catalog description

Pre- or Co-requisite: GEOG 2020 or GEOG 3435 . This class serves as an introduction to the data sciences and how hey can be applied to the geosciences. In particular, there will be a focus on GIS programming in which students learn about fundamentals of programming logic and a programming environment where GIS software capabilities can be extended using programming languages such as Python in order to facilitate data-informed devision using volumionus amounts of data. This class will culminate in a semester-long project that simulates a problem that a student will experience in the professional realm. No prior computer programming experience required.
