, or permission from course instructor This course is designed to offer students an overview of the ethical issues surrounding the conduct of clinical research. During this course, students will learn about early research studies in human subjects that ended in tragedy and lead to the creation regulations regarding the conduct of clinical research. Students will understand how ethical issues can be avoided as well as the role that the Food and Drug Administration and Institutional Review Boards play in protecting patients from the unethical research. This course covers the conduct of research in children, pregnant women, impaired individuals, as well as minority and international communities. Lessons will include the use of big data, stored tissue for genetic research, and stem cell research.
