Catalog description

, A study of the fundamental principles of the neuron and a general description of the nervous system. Students will learn the basics of brain structure and function (neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and neuropharmacology) and how we move and perceive the world (motor and sensory systems). This foundation will be used to explore what is known about higher cognitive processing such as learning, memory, and language; the neural mechanisms of sleep, dreaming, emotion, and addiction; and what happens in the brain when things go wrong. (Three lecture hours per week)
