Catalog description

For students who are not biology majors and who will not be required to take upper-level courses in biology. This is an introductory biology course designed to help students gain knowledge in a wide array of fundamental biological principles and provide a foundation in concepts and methods of biological science that may be interconnected with their daily life. Course content will be delivered in modular format. Modules will include one scientific process module followed by 3 core modules on: 1. cancer (cells & cell division) 2. genetic diseases (eg. Sickle Cell Trait), 3. relevant health, nutrition and wellness trends (eg. flu virus and/or human body metabolism). An optional module on genetically modified organisms, environment, ecosystems, or extinction events may be covered. (Two lecture hours and two laboratory hours per week)
