Catalog description

1 Lecture Hour(s) This course aims at developing small and medium-sized group performance skills, understanding the various approaches behind playing in different group setups as well as teaching the various roles taken by instruments. The course emphasizes developing the art of contributing to a group’s sound and dynamics. It also aims at developing performance skills on jazz standards, jazz-fusion, Caribbean, and African musical styles. The course intends to develop students’ performance skills in various group formations such as duets, trios, quartets, quintets, etc. The course can be taken as an ensemble elective for all students although, designed primarily for those with experience with improvisation.
