1 Lecture Hour(s) 1 Lab Hour(s) This course is designed to introduce students to the basic performance tools and techniques that are necessary for bass performance. It aims to introduce the basic techniques of sound production, positioning, intonation, time, rhythm, subdivision, flexibility, articulation for different types of music, range, repertoire, and improvisation. The course also deals with how to practice and perform simple scales, chords, etudes, standards, tunes, and pieces. It exposes students to the basic techniques of transcription of simple tunes through listening to various recordings. The course guides students using basic technical books and materials that teach techniques, instrument methods for individual study, and time management. It also introduces the practical application of the basic expression marks, dynamics, and jazz articulation. The course is required for bass majors, however, can be an elective for those majoring in another area.
