3 Lecture Hour(s) This course examines African-American labor history from 1619 to the present. We begin by exploring slavery and free labor and their legacies. The course will study related issues of race, gender, immigration, worklife, unions, alternative organizational forms, competing political agendas, conflicts with capital, competition among workers, and working-class culture. Students in the course will develop an understanding of past and ongoing debates within the field. No Prerequisites
