3 Lecture Hour(s) 0 Lab Hour(s) This course compares the development of different slave labor systems in the Americas from the fifteenth through the nineteenth centuries. After a brief consideration of slavery in the ancient world, the course examines the African origins of the slaves; the Atlantic slave trade; and slave life, work, culture, resistance, and emancipation in North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
