3 Lecture Hour(s) 0 Lab Hour(s) This course surveys the origins and development of religious beliefs and organizations among African-Americans. Topics that will be studied include the rise of separate Christian denominations, African antecedents, the political and social role of the African-American church, and the appearance of Islamic and other religious groups. The relationships of religion to African-American reform and protest movements will be highlighted.
