3 Lecture Hour(s) 0 Lab Hour(s) This course introduces the students to the concept of composite materials; the constituent materials of composites; the application areas of composite materials; and the advantages and disadvantages of composite materials. The core contents of this course are the fabrication technologies to make various composite materials, such as, manual lay-up, automated tape lamination, vacuum bagging, filament winding, pultrusion, matched-die molding, resin-transfer molding, spray-up methods, and many others. Other important issues, such as quality assurance, damage control, and repair, will also be discussed.
