Catalog description

This course introduces the student to the fundamentals of HVAC/R. Topics covered in lecture and lab included HVAC/R safety, professionalism, thermodynamics, properties of matter, types of energy, the basic refrigeration cycle, pressure and temperatures, basic hand and power tools; proper brazing techniques for copper and aluminum tubing; proper procedures for soft soldering water lines; proper electrical wire soldering; proper procedures for cutting, reaming, and threading black pipe; proper procedures for cutting and joining PVC; proper procedures for swaging soft copper, flaring soft copper, and bending soft copper. Lecture 2 hours and Laboratory 4 hours per week. Pre / Co-requisite: Tech 1013 Technical Math or Higher and Tech 1021 Industrial Safety.
